I grabbed an old sketch that I felt was appropriate that I did a few years ago. Again, this was another chance for me to practive painting an environment again. Regrettably the size of the canvas for the event was to be square which I had forgotten about untill I was almost finished. So running out of time I squared the canvas for the final piece and completed the pillars on either side.

Even though the archways appear mirrored I did paint around 50% of the other side instead of merely copying it and flipping it. Oh and was I ever tempted to do so. It was a great exercise in lighting for me and although not perfect I am pretty happy with it, which is sometimes hard to come by for me;)

Heading out for a jog before it rains…again

This one’s been in the works for a very long time, about two years to be exact. I finally bit the bullet and picked it up again after about a year of it collecting dust in a folder on my comp, finished in one night and here she is.

Lucy Chen. Enigmatic, beautiful and with just a tad bit of snobbery. Lucy has become quite well known over the last few years having been one of the starring members of the sitcom “My best Friend.” Somehow, Lucy has gotten mixed up in an undercover police investigation of a nefarious group of paparazzi, the Perrazzos. Undercover, she is now trying to infiltrate the group by befriending them and posing with a big smile instead of punching them as she used to do. Lucy doesn’t yet realize how dark the Perrazzos motives really are and what lengths they will go to further their goals.

It is believed, that long ago, a faerie fell in love with a beautiful satyr instead of the vast forest and gardens she was meant to love. The faerie’s love, being too much for just one, began to twist her body into a form recognizable both as a faerie and the satyr. And thus, this is how the faeri-like creatures, Abfae, came to be. Abfae, being shunned from the forests and gardens they so loved, ended up in the marshes and damp underground dwellings where they now share their love with the life that teams in these dark and wet places.

Some new sketchies, no colour this time though. I need to get into it dang it! Quick, someone douse me in paint or something!

The little test tube is from a Dragon magazine me thinks and I couldn’t resist drawing it. I’m also digging old school medieval clothing patterns right now. Viney, floral goodness. Some crazy mermaid design too wanted her to be somewhat eautiful but but with an uneasy alien feel to her. Not your beautiful faced typical Mermaid. The trident isn’t “out there” enough for me though:)

I scrapped the last one I did and started over, I just wasn’t feeling the last one. The costume was a bit too saturated. Although her skin may be too dark now, may have to lighten it up a bit.

I am much happier with how this one is going but I wish I had stayed a bit more stylized in the approach. Oh well, best to keep on and finish this one up so I don’t get stuck on it forever:)
